A family sleeping in a rooftop tent on top of their Toyota HiLux came within inches of being crushed to death by a falling tree during a camping trip.
Dramatic photographs shared online showed how the gum tree almost sliced straight through the centre of the utility vehicle, crushing the roof and seats.
The photo was shared to a Facebook page for 4WD enthusiasts in Queensland, but it's understood the tree fell at a camping ground in Goulburn, south-west of Sydney.
Campers had a lucky escape after a massive tree full onto and crushed the Toyota HiLux they were sleeping in (pictured)
Concerned campers said the near-death incident was a good reminder not to park underneath big or old trees - which are more likely to fall over on windy nights.
'Growing around the Goulburn River we knew em (sic) as widow makers,' one person said.
'Don't camp under them big widow makers, thought everyone knew that,' another added.
'They probably could have driven that home. Unbreakable Hilux...' wrote a third.
Others found some humour out of the situation once it was clear no one was hurt.
'I love how they're looking under the bonnet as if to say 'Yeah I think we can get this going again'' one person joked.
'At least they have plenty of firewood,' another added.
Thankfully the tree missed the tend on the top of the ute's tray but it completely crushed the cab (pictured)
