Kevin Hart opens up about 'near-death experience' while camping

Have you ever told ghost stories around a campfire? With the flames throwing spooky shadows and suspicious rustling sounding out from the woods around you, things can get pretty scary.

Comedian Kevin Hart found this out the hard way while doing a 'backyard camping' night with his family while they were isolating due to the coronavirus.

The Central Intelligence star appeared on The Ellen DeGeneres Show to discuss his experience with a "monster" out in his backyard, and the "near death experience" that ensued.

Kevin started by saying that he asked his family if they wanted to go on a camping trip in their backyard, to which they answered without enthusiasm.

"But hey didn't have any choice, and I said we were doing it," the star retorted with a grin.

So Hart set up a six-person tent in the backyard and decided that from 7.30pm to the next morning, the family would be camping.

"So we had dinner, everyone went to the bathroom, and from that moment on, we were camping," he said.

"We were allowed to bring one iPad, that was it. No phones, no other technology. So we just had one iPad, and we watched scary movies on that."

But as the scary movies started to give Hart the chills, his imagination began to run wild.

"By this time it was starting to get dark," Hart recalled. "And here is the thing, did you know that rabbits look huge with a shadow because of the ears?"

Without giving away too much detail, the comedian said that he and his family noticed there was a rabbit outside the tent, which looked like it had terrifying proportions.

That rabbit caused a "scare", which caused Hart to declare, "We're going to die."

"That's where everyone kinda got riled up," he added.

Eventually, his pregnant wife Eniko Parrish and their youngest child Kenzo went inside, and Hart followed shortly later, leaving his two older children, Heaven and Hendrix, to camp out the rest of the night.

While Hart's 'near-death experience' — which came only months after a very real scare when he was severely injured in a car crash in Malibu — wasn't quite as dramatic as it could have been, it has definitely put any future family camping night on hold, which we have no doubt the family itself was grateful for.

The Ellen DeGeneres Show airs weekdays at 12.00pm on Nine. Catch up on latest episodes on 9Now.
